Emergency Vets
Kim Witalis, DVM
Dr. Witalis, (or Dr. Kim) came to the Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Emergency Clinic in 2004. Before, and during, her association with us, she has continued to work in local general practices with a special interest in exotics.
Dr Kim received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from Ohio State in 1993. Her degree in Veterinary Medicine was obtained at Ross University in 1997. She is currently working on her specialty license in exotic mammals. She is a member of the AVMA, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, Association of Exotic Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, Veterinary Emergency Critical Care Association, European Association of Avian Veterinarians, and currently serves on the board for Ross University Veterinary School Alumni.
In 2009, Dr Kim traveled to Honduras for a Missionary Outreach for Veterinary Students. She provided volunteer veterinary care and surgical services for 2 weeks.
Dr. Kim enjoys traveling, reading, scuba diving, power lifting, and spending time with her multitude of pets. Her menagerie includes a boxer mix named blaze that suffered a furnace injury at 3 days old. The result was a long rehab with the loss of one and a half legs. Additionally, she has a calico cat, Embers, that was rescued after being tortured and set on fire. The result was no ear tips and the loss of one limb. In addition to these rescues, Kim has rescued Rameous, an abandoned Great Dane mix, Angel a Siamese mix, Porter a domestic long hair, and a multitude of birds.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Schmidtchen, a native from Pittsburgh , to our staff of emergency veterinarians. She has recently joined us after practicing for a few years in Idaho at an emergency and specialty practice.
Dr Schmidtchen has a undergraduate degree in Nutrition from Purdue and is a registered dietitian. She carries a Master’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Utah. Personal Statement:
“I enjoy jogging, snow skiing, hiking, and sewing. I have 6 rescued animals, Sissy Grace and English springer spaniel, Smitty Junior, a lab mix, and 4 cats:
a one-eyed cat named Elmo, a three-legged cat named Little Grey and 2 normal cats named Max and Sophia. I have worked as an ER vet for about 8 years. In addition to emergency medicine I also enjoy rehab medicine. Most importantly, I enjoy the interaction with the pets and their owners. I am very excited to be a member of the ER team here in Wilder.”
